FITNESS CHOICES ABOARD CRYSTAL SYMPHONY AND CRYSTAL SERENITY

Fitness Center

“Crystal guests can experience a first-class resort spa or destination spa while at sea,” says Don. “The appealing difference is that our guests can stay in shape while visiting some of the most beautiful and exotic cities in the world.”

Boasting panoramic ocean views, the expansive gym features state-of-the-art equipment and services. LifeFitness® treadmills individually equipped with flat-screen televisions, cross trainers, recumbent and upright life cycles and steppers, strength-training equipment, free weights, a full-time fitness director, and a sports director allows guests to continue their at-home workout programs while at sea or start anew with a complimentary orientation. A generous supply of towels and water are provided and an attendant thoroughly sanitizes equipment after use.

Activity programs include yoga, Pilates, and other chi-balancing classes such as Inner Harmony (for strengthening the abdominals and back while relaxing the mind) and a Sunrise Chi Walk. Chi-energizing sessions include Aerobic Symphony, Body Sculpt (strengthening abdominals, hips, and thighs), Aqua Moves (low-impact water workout) and Cardio Ki-Bo Circuit Training (boxercise, kickboxing, and aerobic conditioning).

Crystal Cruises features fitness expert Debbie Rocker’s exclusive Walk-On-Water® (WOW) fitness program. This unique exercise program maximizes the benefits of walking using a revolutionary weighted Walkvest® that places weights around the waistline for better support and equilibrium control, with the option of adding weights in half-pound increments for a gradual increase from two to 16 pounds.

In an industry first, in July 2008, Crystal Cruises debuted revolutionary Kinesis™ fitness equipment aboard its ultra-luxury ships, Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity. The equipment capitalizes on the use of cable resistance in all planes of movement, and simultaneously incorporates several areas of fitness: strength, flexibility and balance.

In May 2008, Crystal introduced the ‘Tour de Spin’ indoor cycling program, which mirrors stages of the Tour de France. The classes, inspired by top cyclist Lance Armstrong, are available on all itineraries, offered on every sea day and in port when time allows. Participants receive “Livestrong” wristbands for completing the program of three classes, with $1 for each wristband given donated to the Lance Armstrong Foundation by the line’s spa and fitness operator, Steiner Leisure.

Personal training, Pilates one-on-one body Reformer sessions, and body composition analysis and consultation are available for a nominal fee. Unusual on most ships today is Crystal’s wide outside full promenade deck for walking and jogging.
