Complimentary Shore Excursions: “Devil’s Island Exploration” Visit the infamous penal colony that held nearly 80,000 prisoners during 1852-1946. Upon arrival you are greeted by a local guide who will give a brief historical presentation about the island. Next, begin an uphill walk to the area of Devil’s Island where the majority of buildings are located and find local guides positioned at points of interest on the island. These guides will offer commentary during your independent visits to different areas such as the church and overgrown ruins of former prison cells. “Sights of Fortaleza” Discover a city of red-tiled roofs, French-influenced architecture and busy marketplaces with this pleasant overview. Highlights include explorations of Fortaleza’s commercial, residential, beach and resort areas and a stop at Prac¸a Jose de Alencar, the city’s premier square. You will also admire the new Gothic-styled Se Cathedral, view the Dutch-built Assuncao Fortress and enjoy a walk through the flourishing handicraft market.

He has enjoyed national visibility through entertainment and personal appearances such as authoring books including Baseball For Idiots to his Emmy Award-winning instructional show The Baseball Bunch.

Working extensively in Europe and the Middle East, Rees has written about ancient and modern Greece, as well as about the history and contemporary challenges of countries such as Egypt and Lebanon.
